How your accountant may unknowingly have cost you thousands this year

April 30th, 2012

Unless your accountant has an in-house R&D tax expert, they just won’t have the time, knowledge or experience to secure you the largest possible refund in the shortest amount of time.

R&D tax relief is highly specialist.  Because R&D is all that we do, we know how to identify a good claim, tell the story behind the claim in such a way that it is more likely to be successful and secure the highest possible amount in R&D tax credits or tax relief. Our success rate is 100%.

At R&D Tax Claims, our unbeatable technical knowledge means we can identify what we believe will be a viable claim with just a short meeting.

What’s more, our expertise equips us to produce your claim in just two meetings and ten weeks.

Contact us today to see how we could secure, speed and maximise your refund.

What is R&D?

April 23rd, 2012

HMRC defines R&D as an activity that “directly contribute(s) to achieving an advance in science or technology through the resolution of scientific or technological uncertainties.”

Many people understandably assume that an advance in technology must be about creating a new product.  But this isn’t always the case.

The advancement can be doing something that is faster, cheaper, or more sustainable.

To find out if what you do is R&D, ask yourself:

  • Do you hire technical staff, engineers, software developers or scientists?
  • Do you spend money on staff, consumables and/or subcontractors in order to undertake development work?
  • Are you creating new or improved products or processes?
  • Have you ever tried some new product or process that failed?

Answered yes to any of the above? Then you may have a claim.

£95,000 R&D tax refund secured for specialist engineering company. Could we help you with a similar tax claim?

April 18th, 2012

As the R&D Tax experts, we know the proof is in the pudding and I’m delighted that we have secured a significant tax refund for A&M EDM Ltd, a specialist engineering company based in Smethwick, Black Country.

The R&D tax refund of £95,000 was secured after an initial no-obligation chat. A&M’s accountants had said that claiming for R&D could be difficult to prove but with our specialist knowledge of the Governement R&D Tax Relief Scheme,  we were able to secure the refund within just two months of our first meeting.  I know that they are pleasantly surprised by the speed of the claim.

A&M are a great example of a company that is typically not making the most of this scheme – they provide high specification precision-made parts and tooling to the aerospace and automotive sectors, using wire and spark erosion and CNC manufacturing processes – much of their output is R&D led.

The tax refund will enable them to reinvest in business growth with a 1,000 sq ft two storey extension. Next year we’ll be working with them again to process a further refund.

Call us today to see if we can also help you to reduce your corporation tax bill through the R&D Tax Relief Scheme.

How easy is it to get money back with the R&D Tax Relief Scheme?

April 4th, 2012

Very – but only with the right knowledge, skills and experience!

The Government is so dedicated to the R&D Tax Relief Scheme that it has even opened several specialist HMRC R&D units across the country to deal with these claims.

Simply get in touch to arrange an initial meeting and if we think there’s a successful claim to be made, we’ll have a second, more detailed meeting, compile a technical report and fill in the relevant forms.

We need only minimal input from your management team and can take care of the claim on your behalf, so contact us for a no obligation meeting to see how much we could save you.

‘R&D at the heart of UK growth’ means better tax incentives for UK companies – could yours be one of them?

March 31st, 2012

Any UK company engaged in R&D activities should welcome the Government’s latest consultation paper on ‘Above the Line’ Credit for Research & Development.

Although the paper is principally aimed at Large Companies, we at R&D Tax Claims are delighted to see that the UK Government has committed to putting R&D at the heart of its growth agenda. With a total £1 billion of government support being provided per annum, there are benefits for companies of every size.

The R&D Tax Claims team has already claimed over £6 million for its SME clients. But we know there are many more who are eligible to claim but do not have the specialist knowledge to access the £320 million of support provided every year under the SME Scheme.

The latest changes to the scheme increase the support available to SMEs by a further £75-100 million a year. As the R&D Tax experts, let us help you to make the most of these changes and claim back your tax refund.

At R&D Tax Claims we are delighted that the tax relief for qualifying R&D expenditure by an SME will increase from 200% to 225% for any spend incurred on or after 1 April 2012.

This could bring a welcome boost to many companies in the UK who may find themselves considerably better off. The average tax refund that R&D Tax Claims secure on behalf of clients is more than £50,000.

I’ve heard of bogus ‘No win, no fee’ offers from R&D Tax companies – what are these? And how can I avoid them?

March 21st, 2012

Many companies providing R&D Tax Relief support proclaim to offer a ‘no win, no fee’ deal.

In reality, some charge a non-refundable ‘deposit’ or ‘consultation’ fee, regardless of whether they secure (or even handle!) the claim.

At R&D Tax Claims, our No Win, No Fee claim is 100% genuine.  As the R&D tax experts, we’re able to do this because we know what will (or won’t) make a good claim.

Our 100% successful claim track record affords us the resource to be remunerated via a competitive commission on the refund and future savings you receive.

This is how we’re able to deliver a genuine, no win-no fee, risk-free offer.

I’m an SME – am I eligible for HMRC’s R&D Tax Credits Scheme?

March 15th, 2012

You could be! There are special rules on R&D tax credits for UK SMEs, but if you have fewer than 500 employees and a turnover of less than £100m, you could be eligible for a tax rebate.
