R&D Tax and Grants Ltd win Best Start Up Award, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Awards

Wolverhampton based R&D Tax and Grants won the award for Best Start Up Business at the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group Annual Awards at the International Convention Centre, Birmingham on 16 September.

R&D Tax and Grants Ltd, based at the Pendeford Business Park in Wolverhampton,  was set up in April 2009 to assist manufacturing companies that invest in research and development (R&D) to claim back extra tax relief on every pound the business spends in developing new products or introducing new and improved processes.

The company works with SMEs – companies with less than 500 employees and a turnover of less than 100 million euros – to help them receive tax refunds quickly, as well as similar annual reductions on their corporation tax bills in the future.

Mark Evans, managing director of R&D Tax and Grants, said, “I’m absolutely delighted to win this award. The scheme is a Government-backed initiative instigated by the European Union to encourage SMEs involved in manufacturing to develop their products and processes and then to claim back corporation tax paid on R&D. We operate on a no win, no fee basis so if we can identify a possibility of a reclaim, then our clients have nothing to lose but could gain a substantial amount.

“Many business owners assume that they are not eligible for tax refunds because they don’t realise that what they do counts as research and development. In our first year of trading we helped 32 UK manufacturers reclaim over £1.5 million from HMRC. The average refund paid to our clients is £50,000, and we recently helped an East Midlands based manufacturer reclaim £118,000. In this economic climate, our manufacturing industries need all the financial help they can get, and a refund of this kind can be a life saver.”
